Sometimes, people feel impressed to embark on a new journey, but feel powerless to pursue the dream. Even though it may be God-breathed, they choke their destiny by embracing the sense of powerlessness that have plagued them for most of their lives. It is one thing to recognize a vision is too big to accomplish on your own; it’s quite another to reject it out of fear of failure. As disciples of Jesus Christ, it is important to recognize He has given you everything you need to participate in the adventure of a lifetime, which also has eternal rewards attached to it. 2 Peter 1:2-3 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord; seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of Him Who called us by His own glory and excellence.
Of course, some have faced the obstacle of considering themselves “worthless” because that’s all they’ve heard spoken over them. “You’re worthless. You’re stupid and will never going to amount to anything!” By now, many of you have heard that as a person thinks in his heart, so is he (see Proverbs 23:7).
Even if you have limited natural abilities, God’s infinite abilities are at your disposal. After all, He is your Father. There is no worth greater than that!
It is time to reevaluate what you think about Him and yourself. If you feel “less than,” consider 1 Corinthians 1:27-31, But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to shame the things which are strong, and the base things of the world and the despised God has chosen, the things that are not, so that He may nullify the things that are, so that no man may boast before God. But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, so that, just as it is written, “Let him who boasts, boast in the Lord.” It means you’re in position to do amazing things that will confound the wise, powerful and rich. Don’t forget, you have the mind of Christ (see 1 Corinthians 2:9-16). There is no greater creative mind in the entire world.
Others have a tendency to consider their financial position in relation to their capacity to make things happen. In numerous cases, several carry a poverty-mentality. To be honest, if you embrace this thought process, you will be hard pressed to get ahead. With it also comes a victim-mentality, which means those who hold to these ways of thinking, will ever be powerless to change their lives. In essence, life happens to them, and they have no decision in the process. If you are in Christ Jesus, you are no longer a victim.
Moreover, God has changed your position in life, and expects you to change the way you think and live.
This doesn’t necessarily mean you will become extremely rich; unless of course, that’s what He wants for you. He wants everyone to be wealthy, but that doesn’t mean everyone is supposed to be a zillionaire. It is a state of mind or lifestyle that does not limit God. For some, God does give them a lot of material wealth as part of their calling. In other words, God will enable people to handle large sums of money in order to further His Kingdom. They recognize that they receive the blessing in order to be a blessing. In fact, we all should recognize the same thing. We’re given blessings from God to be a blessing to Him and others. Whatever you need to fulfill your purpose will be there at the proper time. It is important to allow God to define what is “needed.” 3 John 1:2 Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers.
As we’ve considered a couple areas that relate to being either powerless or powerful, an underlying theme comes to the surface: who we are is more important than what we do.
In the world, many are able to do a lot of big things, regardless of their character. They have great talent. Unfortunately for some, none of it will matter in the end, because none of it will have any eternal value. They may accumulate great wealth and do amazing things throughout their lives, only to have it burn, including themselves (see Luke 12:16-21 [The Parable of the Rich Fool]; 1 Corinthians 3:12-15). Part of Father’s purpose for you is conforming you to the image of Jesus. In the Kingdom, great accomplishments accompany great character. “Great accomplishments” should be left to God to define. Sometimes His definition and ours don’t lineup. What some people do may be more visible than what others may do. The scale of what they do may seem humongous; but in reality, it’s no greater than any other labor of love. When you walk in obedience to your calling, regardless of size and scope; if you are faithful to Him and steward well what has given you, it is just as huge as anyone else’s calling.
Your journey is an opportunity to become someone who is spectacular. If Jesus is revealed through you, what could be greater? His grace is sufficient for you. You are powerful because He resides in you. When you are weak, He is strong. Being powerful is not automatic. You have to agree with Him in order for His power to operate in your life. While God does rule and reign, He still gives you the decisions and choice. You’re not a robot that He controls with a remote. You’re His child whom He has empowered by grace to say yes to Him, and no to the world. At the same time, you’re the one who has to decide. He doesn’t do it for you. You’re more powerful than you think!
