How We Miss Out
Have you ever experienced dissatisfaction? Perhaps even now, there’s something inside crying out for more. The question is: what’s the more? We can become so disquieted by what we don’t have, we miss out on what’s before us. Stay zeroed in on what you’re “missing,” and you will fail to be content and lose sight of gratitude.
Don’t Forget His Benefits
Psalm 103:1-6 Bless the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; Who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; Who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s. The LORD executeth righteousness and judgment for all that are oppressed.
How often do we forget what the Lord has already done for us? Do you enjoy the forgiveness He extended? Think of the alternative. He not only heals us, Jesus gave the Ultimate Sacrifice, so we may receive our healing. God didn’t just magically wave some wand from the distance. He got up close and personal. Let’s not forget the redemption of our very souls, which delivered us from evil and the wrath to come.
Don’t Forget His Mercy and Grace
Psalm 103:8-13 The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy. He will not always chide: neither will he keep His anger for ever. He hath not dealt with us after our sins; nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is His mercy toward them that fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. Like as a father pitieth His children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear Him.
Don’t Forget About His Love
Have you ever heard the phrase, “Better than I deserve,” in response to “How are you?” God didn’t deal with us in the way justice demands. Moreover, He reconciled us unto Himself, while not holding us accountable for our sins (see 2 Corinthians 5:18-19). He’s been nothing but kind and merciful.
Which leads to another point: God’s love is not the kind you can deserve. His blessings have never been predicated on our works. In fact, they’re based on His works because of His love. Yes, He rewards obedience, but you’ll never do anything that will make Him love you more or less.
Remember What You Do Have
Should you be tempted to complain about what you don’t have, remember what you do have!
