Indifference Can Be Good

Perhaps to most, indifference has a negative connotation. Nonetheless, it does have some positive attributes. How so? It comes down to whom or what one is indifferent. Being unresponsive to the things of the world, for example, is a positive for the disciple of Jesus Christ. The more apathetic we are to them, the more sensitive we are to Him. Moreover, we will be more apt to hear His voice, while completing ignoring the enemy’s.
1 John 2:15-16 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world.
The simplest way to disregard the things of the world, and the enemy’s voice is submitting to Holy Spirit, while humbling ourselves before God, and drawing near to Him. Communion with Him leads to positive indifference. By loving God, we cease to love the things of the world.
Galatians 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh (see also James 4:6-10).

Indifference to God

Matthew 24:12 Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold (NASB).
One aspect of the latter days is people’s love will grow cold, because of iniquity. We see this becoming more prevalent with the passage of time. For some strange reason, some believe they can dip their toe in the pool of sin without it grabbing them by the ankle, and pulling them into its murky waters. “God’s grace will keep me from drowning.” Really?
1 Timothy 4:1-2 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron.
Please note, this verse clearly says some people will depart from the faith. The NASB says, “They will fall from the faith.” Which means they actually were in the faith, before leaving it. Thus, it is possible to leave the faith (see Hebrews 3:12). It might prove difficult to leave a place where you’ve never been.
Their minds began to wander into places they do not belong. They started paying attention to the wrong voices. These lying voices of hypocrisy captured them. They too would become liars. They not only speak lies to others; but they lie to themselves. That’s called self-deception. Consequently, their conscience become indifferent to God.
2 Timothy 4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears.

Indifference is a Decision

Indifference is a decision we all make every day. We decide about whom or what we care. Clearly, the phraseology of these passages of Scripture reveals the power of decision is in our hands. With God’s grace, we are able to harness His help in doing so.
Hebrews 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
