Do You Feel Incomplete?

The more people try to complete themselves, the more incomplete they will feel. This is true for the believer and non-believer alike. In every human being on the planet, there is a God-sized void that only God can fill. Many try to fill it with other things such as success, drugs, alcohol, relationships and so on. Even with all their efforts to the fill the void, in the end they are still empty. Even the believer who has received Jesus Christ and has had this void filled by God, can at times feel incomplete because they are trying to complete a work in themselves that only God Himself can do. The harder they try to be the Christian they are called to be, the more they feel inadequate. Until they understand that they are complete in Christ Jesus, they will seek to complete themselves by way of faith formulas and canned answers. They will develop theories or doctrines that sound spiritual, but have no Scriptural basis. How about you, do you feel incomplete? Perhaps the following will help those who struggle with this issue.

For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily.  And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power (Colossians 2:9-10, KJV). The first thing that every believer must realize is that we are complete in Jesus Christ, period.  It is not Jesus plus our works, abilities, social standings and so on; it is only in Him do we have it together, because it is only Him Who has it together. In the Greek, the word, “complete” in the literal sense means to make full; supply abundantly with something; to fill a vessel or a hollow place, or to cram. In the figurative sense, it means to furnish; permeate; spread over a wide area or among a large number of people; to influence; impart richly; inspire; to satisfy, execute (an office); finish a period or task. This word also means to fulfill or perform fully. Simply put, to be complete means having all the necessary or appropriate parts. As a verb, it means to make something, or in our case, someone whole or perfect.

Sometimes people feel incomplete because they feel unworthy. Here is some news; they are unworthy –in of themselves. Because God loves us so much, He has extended the ability to be worthy through Jesus Christ: “For he hath made Him (Jesus) to be sin for us, Who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him” (2 Corinthians 5:21, KJV). Going back Colossians chapter two,

“In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead. And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses” Colossians 2:11-13 (KJV).

When we confess our sins, repent of them, and receive Jesus Christ, all of our sins are forgiven. All means all, past, present and future. Through the righteousness of Jesus Christ, we can confidently stand before the Father, without having to feel unworthy. Look at 2Peter 1:2-3, “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust” (KJV). Let this sink in, through Jesus Christ, God has given us everything we need that pertains to life and godliness. We are absolutely complete in Him, which means we are free to be all that He has called us to be, and do all that He has called us to do. Because He loves you so much, the Father sent the Son to make you whole. Remember Philippians 1:6, “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” (KJV).
