To obey God means we believe Him and surrender to His will out of love. It means that we desire to know His will and to complete it in a way that is well pleasing to Him. Our obedience declares that He is God and we are not. Confession is not only words of agreement; it is actions that agree with Him. Acts of obedience fulfill the Law of Faith. Simply put, when the Father reveals His will to us, we should submit to Him because we love Him. If we say that Jesus Christ is Lord, our lifestyle should reflect our words. Going farther, can you honestly say, “Jesus Christ is my Lord?”
Question: if people say they love God with all their heart, soul, mind and strength, why do they try to bargain with Him? If Jesus Christ is their Lord, why do they not obey Him? Is it obedience to bargain with God? “Father, if You do this for me, I will do that for You?” Is God a man that we should bargain with Him?
In some cases, when people bargain with God, either they do not trust Him enough with the result or they want to fulfill a lust. Perhaps, it is both. Jesus said His reward is with Him, and He will give to each one of us according to our works (see Revelation 22:12). What kind of works are you doing? Are they dead works or works of faith? If you are one who bargains with God, are you seeking earthly (temporal) things that fulfill the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, or the pride of life? 1John 2:15-17 says, “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever” (KJV). Are you bargaining for eternal things that He freely gives to those who ask? If we love Jesus, we will obey Him. If we love the Father, we will seek Him for Him, and not the reward.
In a covenant relationship with God, He is the One Who sets the conditions of the covenant; not us. Therefore, ask God what His conditions are. Remember, He is our Creator and our Redeemer. Which means by virtue of us being His creation alone, gives Him the right to do as He pleases with us. Through Jesus Christ we were also bought with a Price and we are not our own (see 1Corinthians 6:19-20). He owns us! Nevertheless, the God of the universe loves you so much that Jesus came, suffered, died and resurrected from the dead, so you could have an awesome relationship with Him. What more on earth could you bargain for that even comes close to that?
