An Aspect of Walking by Faith
An element of walking by faith is knowing God is constantly working behind the scenes. Though He may show us some things He is doing, He doesn’t reveal everything. At least, not until the proper time. That means not everything we see, or experience is what is seems. Even the things that appear to be out of place, may actually be in perfect order. It boils down to a simple truth: He often moves in ways that we do not understand, especially when we are in the thick of it.
When your world seems upside down, inside out, and turbulent, it is important to trust Him all the more. When prayers appear unanswered, or perhaps circumstances seem to be going the polar opposite of the request, the temptation is to doubt God. Doubt loves to knock on the doors of those who rely on their own understanding (read Proverbs 3:5-8). When you rely on your own understanding, you are walking by sight; not faith.
1 Corinthians 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him.
Faith says, “Before you were born, God knew you, and the circumstances that would surround you.” In addition, it says He made preparations for those eventualities. He made a way where there was no way.
Some of the Behind-the-Scenes Work
It is hard to fathom how far, and how deep God will go for us. Think in terms of wholeness, and process. When He answers our prayers, or does rescue operations, His work is far reaching. We tend to look for a quick reaction force, but that might not be what is needed. Consider this for example, a simple rescue does not prevent someone from having to be rescued again. People will sabotage themselves over and again, with no end in sight, until an internal change takes place.
1 Peter 4:12 Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you (see also James 1:2-12; 1 Peter:1:6-7).
Dovetailing on this point, God will allow circumstances to bring exposure to the deeper issues. We might pray for some sort of deliverance, with one result in mind; whereas, He looks at everything involved with multitudes of results in mind.
For instance, a person may mouth the words, “I trust God,” but deep down he does not. It will take some sort of event to expose his unbelief. To further the point, one might think the issue is simple unbelief, but there might be something else involved. In this case, the person does not believe God loves him. Consequently, he does not trust Him, because he doesn’t believe God has his best interests at heart.
As God takes him through the hardship, he will discover the Father’s love for him. Often, when a person goes through such an event, he is unaware that ABBA is with him until he gets through it. He might feel as if God abandoned him. Eventually, he will discover God was working behind the scenes the entire time, in spite of what he felt. By the way, when people believe they are unloved, their behavior will follow suit. Meaning, they will subconsciously sabotage relationships, in order to prove their hypothesis. They look for rejection.
So, why would someone believe God does not love him, especially when Scripture says otherwise? In this situation, someone close to him broke his trust. Someone who was supposed to be trustworthy. Obviously, this might include several people. If he can’t trust the one whom he can see, how can he trust the One Whom he cannot see. In short, our most amazing Father will reveal the root of the problem, and remove it if individuals will allow Him to work in their life. Once truth comes, so does freedom. It does not require decades of therapy when God gets involved.
This one example, has many more things attached to what was presented here. For instance, not only does God touch the individual, but he will touch the lives of those whom were affected by him. Those who are in pain, often lash out, and hurt others. “Hurt people, hurt people.” It perpetuates, like a chain reaction. In this case, healing encompasses more than one person. This includes restoring relationships.
Here’s a different example. God works around everything attached to our circumstances, which includes our decisions, actions, inactions, and those of others around us. Checkmate requires more than one move in a game of Chess. For instance, when you pray for safe travels, He has to work around your driving habits, along with the habits of others; when you start, or stop, not to mention any layovers. Let’s not forget modes of transportation. That might include an airline, which is also dependent on schedules, pilots, weather conditions, and how well the aircraft has been maintained.
There is an endless list of areas in which God moves behind the scenes. This doesn’t get anywhere near the scratch of the scratch of the surface. In it all, He is trustworthy. praiseworthy, and thankworthy! We walk by faith; not by sight!
