Your Obedience Matters!

Genesis 26:4-5 And I will make thy (Isaac) seed to multiply as the stars of heaven, and will give unto thy seed all these countries; and in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; Because that Abraham obeyed my voice, and kept my charge, my commandments, my statutes, and my laws (KJV).

During a great famine, the Lord visited Isaac, and told him that He would bless him based on Abraham’s obedience.  It was not based on anything Isaac did; rather, he benefited because he was Abraham’s son.  In fact, as believers in the Lord Jesus Christ, we are all beneficiaries of his obedience as well.  Proverbs 13:22 says, “A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just” (KJV).  That means that the blessings we receive are intended to go beyond us.  God told Abraham, “And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a blessing:  And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed” (Genesis 12:2-3, KJV).  The Lord did not bless Abraham solely for Abraham’s sake; He blessed Him in order to make him a blessing to all the families of the earth.  If we as believers are going to make a positive impact on our loved ones and beyond, we need to walk in obedience to the Lord.

Lets get honest: parents if you want your children to have the best the Lord has to offer them, you need walk in a way that is pleasing to God.  If you want to see your children in heaven, you have to make it to heaven yourself.  Ultimately, they will have to make the decision to surrender their lives to Jesus Christ for themselves; however, your obedience will greatly influence that decision.  Our loved ones and those who we may never meet on this side of eternity could be the recipients of many blessings if we would simply obey God.  So yes, your obedience does matter!
